Tomorrow is my daughter Chelsea’s 21st birthday!
Chelsea is one of the strongest people I’ve ever met inside and out.
She has such a beautiful spirit and lights up a room every where she goes.
Today I want to share a couple of things I’ve learned from her that you can use to maximize your health and wellness!
1.) Don’t care what others think
Chelsea is the poster child for marching to the beat of her own drum.
Her life isn’t dictated by social media standards.
Comparison is something that many of us struggle with in trying to reach our fitness goals.
We do all of this hard work then see someone else who’s in better shape and instantly feel like a failure.
You will never be like that person because there’s only one of them. There’s only one of you.
Instead accept yourself and love your self.
Set goals for yourself that are realistic and attainable.
2.) Embrace a strong work ethic
I love that my daughter has developed into a hard working responsible adult.
She is going to school full-time and has a full-time job.
Chelsea wasn’t always disciplined and responsible.
It took time for her to develop those habits.
In trying to develop a healthier lifestyle, change isn’t going to take place overnight.
You have to be patient and stay consistent.
Before you know it, the healthy lifestyle you’ve always wanted has become your new normal.
3.) Seek Help
When we first adopted Chelsea at 15, she didn’t know how to ask for help.
She had survived on taking care of herself and her siblings for most of her life.
It took a while for her to trust us and let us be her parents.
Over the past six years, she’s gone from doing things on her own, to learning how to be a kid and have parents, to now become a responsible adult.
She seeks and asks help from us whenever she needs it.
Even though she’s an adult, I love when she still asks me for help:).
Trying to live a healthier lifestyle without help is extremely hard to do consistently.
You need someone to hold you accountable so you will stay consistent in maintaining a healthy lifestyle!
4.) Enjoy the process
It’s been wonderful to have a front row seat to see Chelsea blossom into this incredible young woman.
Let’s be real, having your first kid be a 15 yr old wasn’t all sunshine and roses either:).
Some days were really hard work!
Those hard days were so worth the investment because I get to see a happy, whole person, who lights up my home day in and day out now!
When trying to live a healthier lifestyle, you will have a setback or ten:).
Don’t let those setbacks defeat you.
Pick yourself up and go right back to those healthy habits that you strive to maintain.
Focus on enjoying the process instead of trying to be perfect.
When you do this, you will succeed in living a healthier lifestyle!
