Being a mom is very hard work but also extremely rewarding.
Time after time I talk with busy moms who struggle with guilt.
Below are 3 simple tips you can apply that will help you battle mom guilt.
1.) Make yourself a priority
This is a very common thing busy mom clients struggle with when they first start training with me.
They feel like if they focus on themselves, then they are neglecting their kids and spouse.
That couldn’t be further from the truth.
If you don’t focus on yourself first, you will become burned out, worn out, and your quality of life decreases.
Instead focus on things like:
-Going to bed earlier
-Saying no to more things
-Making strength training a priority
-Drinking plenty of water daily
-Adding lean protein and lots of veggies to every meal
2.) Take care of your mental health
If you don’t make yourself a priority and give into mom guilt, your mental health will suffer.
Over time this can lead to anxiety, depression, and/or getting sick.
My wife and I have an agreement.
When I get home from work, I take over.
That means finishing dinner, reading the kids a story, and putting them to bed.
Once dinner is finished she heads upstairs and takes a relaxing 45 min-1 hr bath with no interruptions.
She gets to read, watch a show on her i-phone, or just sit in quiet.
It doesn’t matter, she deserves solitude after a long day serving our family and taking care of the kids.
The second piece to this is also scheduling girls nights 1-2x/month with just her girlfriends.
Husbands, if you aren’t doing this for your wives I highly encourage you to start.
This allows them to share each others burdens, vent, and have time away from people asking them questions non stop.
3.) Get Accountability
You can’t do all of this alone.
Developing a healthy lifestyle is hard and YOU NEED HELP!
Staying accountable to someone will help develop consistency.
This will result in you developing a healthier lifestyle and not letting mom guilt hold you back anymore.
